Public Cloud Price comparison

shadow

No surprises: You will pay the same every month

  • The main benefit of using a private cloud is the reduced cost when compared to public cloud hosting.
  • This cost savings makes sense when you need several virtual machines, well, that is exactly the idea of a private cloud.
  • Given their "bill on demand" price model,  one of the most common complains between public cloud users is the problem of getting big "surprises" in their monthly bill caused by traffic peaks or misconfigured services.
  • Public Cloud providers will bill you based on the amount of data transfered; usually they have a price per GB.
The Cloud-Bricks Enterprise configuration gives you unlimited data transfer with 100Mbps link speed, which gives you about 33 TB of data transfer per month if you use the link at its maximum capacity all the time.
  • In a normal situation you will not use the link at the 100% of its capacity 24 hours per day, so in order to be able to perform our price comparison we will use 10 TB of data transfer per month because it is the average data transfer between our customers.
  • We are going to compare how much would cost a similar infrastructure to the hardware provided by one Enterprise Cloud-Brick in AWS and MS Azure.

Comparing to AWS

For easy of comparison we will use a medium size instance called "m3 large" which uses 2 vCPUS, 7.5 GB RAM and 32 GB SSD Storage. (See details)

An Enterprise Cloud-Brick can host 16 of those instances offering unlimited data transfer, and will still have more than 3TB of  remaining SSD Accelerated Cloud Storage.  Please remember that our firewall and Load Balancing Services are included in our price, and that we are using 10 TB (10.000 GB) of data transfer for ease comparison.

Let's take a look about how much would cost to host 16 "m3 large" instances in AWS:

* You may get a discount with AWS if you reserve the instances and/or pay in advance.
** Cloud-Bricks offers  SSD Accelerated Cloud Storage only. We are comparing it to "EBS Magnetic Volumes" when quoting capacity but to "AWS EBS Provisioned IOPS SSD volumes" when quoting Provisioned IOPs.
*** There is an additional price in AWS for each GB of data processed by the Load Balancing system, we are just counting the hours of service.
**** Cloud Watch is the statistics and monitoring system for AWS. We provide an integrated CACTI system, for free.

Comparing to MS Azure

In Azure we will take Instance type "D2" as reference which uses 2 Cores, 7GB of RAM and 100 GB of SSD Storage.

An Enterprise Cloud-Brick can host 16 of those instances offering unlimited data transfer, and will still have more than 2TB of additional SSD Accelerated Cloud Storage.  Please remember that our firewall and Load Balancing Services are included in our price, and that we are using 10 TB (10.000 GB) of data transfer for ease comparison.

Let's take a look about how much would cost to host 16 "D2" instances in MS Azure.
